NCWorks NextGen Center - Johnston County

JCI proudly operates the NCWorks NextGen Career Center in Johnston County, NC. NCWorks NextGen is a year-round youth program funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and administered by Capital Area Workforce Development. At the NCWorks NextGen Career Center you will learn to set and accomplish goals, understand how to be a responsible employee, and start down a solid career path with a promising future. Our staff will help you every step of the way.

Who is NextGen for?

  • Ages 14-24 (may vary) 
  • Out of School 
  • In need of a High School Diploma or GED 
  • Have difficulty with math and/or reading 
  • Are juggling the responsibilities of parenthood 
  • Want to attend college or earn a credential 
  • Those who wish to identify and pursue a meaningful career!

What We Offer

At NextGen, we help participants learn to set and accomplish goals, plan a path for career advancement, understand how to be a responsible and successful employee, and develop an attitude for success!  Services available include:  

  • Comprehensive Career Counseling 
  • Mentoring 
  • Career Exploration 
  • Entrepreneurship/Business Skills 
  • Job Training 
  • Paid or Unpaid Work Experience 
  • Leadership Development 
  • Money Management

Adolescent Parenting Transitions

The Adolescent Parenting Transitions (APT) is a collaborative program in Johnston County meant to improve employment and educational outcomes for pregnant/parenting youth while providing parenting education and support to promote multi-generational success.  This program, funded and supported by the United Way of the Greater Triangle, is a collaboration between JCI, Johnston County DSS, and the Partnership for Children of Johnston County.  

What We Offer

In addition to personal case management and support, participants can access services in the following categories:  

  • Career Experience (paid/unpaid work experiences, job shadowing) 
  • Career Exposure (industry, employer, pathway tours, assessments, planning, etc.)
  • Leadership Development (group meetings, community service, workshops, financial literacy, etc.) 
  • Education/Training Services (occupational skills training, tutoring, scholarships)   
  • Support Services
